Why Vocational Education?
Vocational Education and Training enables students to gain skills that can be applied to a range of jobs in various industry sectors. In India, there is a shortage of skilled personnel for jobs in sectors such as banking, retail, hospitality, healthcare, computer programming and so on. Vocational courses bridge the gap between the demand and supply of skilled manpower by equipping students with necessary skills to meet industry-specific requirements.
Vocational education has a number of benefits. On the micro level, it helps individuals from disadvantaged and marginalized backgrounds to earn a higher income to support their families. Furthermore, it also boosts their levels of self-esteem and confidence as they become financially independent. Vocational education also transforms the society by providing greater opportunities for individuals to contribute to the economy. Higher employment also reduces the incidence of crime, especially among disadvantaged groups.
